Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month, a time to recognize the accomplishments, leadership, and contributions of people with disabilities while reflecting on the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity.
Disability Pride Month also commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, a landmark civil rights law that continues to protect the rights of millions of Americans.
At Canaan Cares, we believe disability is not something to hide or overcome. It is part of the diverse experiences that make every individual unique. We are proud to support individuals and families by promoting self-advocacy, independence, inclusion, and meaningful community participation.
Learn. Connect. Celebrate.
Throughout July, the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is offering several free educational events and resources, including:
- Disability Pride Panel Discussions
- Relationships Decoded Webinar Series
- Self-Advocate Advisory Committee Meeting
- Self-Determination Program Orientation
- Regional Center Services Resource Page
These opportunities help individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals learn, connect, and advocate together.
Together, We Build More Inclusive Communities
Disability Pride Month reminds us that every voice matters.
By learning from one another, supporting self-advocates, and creating more accessible communities, we help ensure every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
From all of us at Canaan Cares, Happy Disability Pride Month!
