Aging Caregiver Workshop Series: A Life Planning Program
The Home of Guiding Hands (HGH) is offering an Aging Caregiver Workshop Series: A Life Planning Program designed to help families develop a life plan for a family member with a disability.
Families supporting a loved one with an intellectual or developmental disability often spend years planning for today. But planning for tomorrow is just as important.
The Home of Guiding Hands (HGH), in collaboration with the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center, is offering an upcoming Aging Caregiver Workshop Series: A Life Planning Program designed to help families develop a life plan for a family member with a disability.
The six-part series will provide information, resources, and guidance to help families think ahead and create a plan that reflects their loved one’s needs, abilities, interests, and goals.
Upcoming Workshop Dates
The workshops will be held every other Thursday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM:
September 10: Why Plan – Getting Started
September 24: Identifying Skills and Abilities
October 8: Work, Leisure, and Building Connections
October 22: Housing Options
November 5: Legal Issues
November 19: Setting Goals and Deeper Dive
Location: San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center
75 Rancho Camino Dr., Pomona, CA 91766
Each workshop is approximately 2½ hours. Families are encouraged to participate in the entire series so they can build a more complete and usable life plan.
Why Life Planning Matters
Planning ahead can give families an opportunity to consider important questions before circumstances require immediate decisions.
What skills and abilities does your loved one have? What activities and relationships are important to them? What housing options may be appropriate in the future? What legal considerations should be addressed?
Most importantly, what does a meaningful and fulfilling life look like for the individual?
The workshop series is designed to help families explore these questions while learning about available resources and creating a plan that can evolve over time.
